Mission: to describe the physical marine environment and forecast its evolution. To disseminate information.
1. State responsibilities in terms of national hydrography, by collecting, archiving and distributing official information for navigation.
2. Responsible, in its field, for defence expertise and operational support. Represents the Minister of Defence in research organisations.
3. Meeting the needs of the State's action at sea:
a) providing expertise and information ;
b) management of national information bases on the physical marine environment;
c) making products available to the public.
