Who organises the local edition in Kuala Lumpur?

In 2022, the Embassy of France to Malaysia launched Ocean Hackathon® Kuala Lumpur and it remained the main organizer of the 2023 edition of this event.

Both editions encountered significant success, as the local winners: Jelly Go! (2022) and Team Nemo (2023) won respectively the first and third place at the international grand finale Ocean Hackathon®, in Brest.

Moreover, this event resulted in the constitution of a strong network of partners, including UM, USM, UMT, UMS, UNIMAS, UKM, and APU which provided tutors and challenges and greatly assisted in the promotion of Ocean Hackathon® KL among their students, who represented most of the participants.  The network also encompasses environmental NGOs, such as Reef Check Malaysia and Marine Research Foundation, French institutions, notably MNHN and Ocean KAN.

For the 2025 edition, Ocean Hackathon® KL will be coordinated by a consortium of three academic institutions: APU, USM and UMT, in close collaboration with the Attaché for Science and Higher Education at the Embassy. The Embassy will also remain the main funder of the event.
